Filesync Schedule: A Troublesome Issue with Windows 10 Anniversary Update

As a user of Microsoft's Offline Files feature, I recently encountered an issue that took me several hours to resolve. The problem arose when trying to access the Sync Center in Task Scheduler, where I found that a randomly named subfolder under the GUID was missing. This lack of folder creation led to an 'Access Denied' error, preventing me from setting up a schedule for file syncing.

After conducting research and experimenting with different solutions, I discovered that this issue is specific to Windows 10 Anniversary Update (v15063) and Creator's Update (v15063). A clean install of the 1607 Anniversary Update v14393 resolved the problem, allowing Offline Files and Sync Schedule to function correctly. However, when updating to v15063, the issue reappeared.

I tried various workarounds, including updating permissions on the folder and enabling/disabling Offline Files. Unfortunately, none of these solutions worked. The lack of a SID folder meant that there was nothing to show in Task Scheduler under Sync Center.

This issue is not limited to my specific setup, as I encountered the same problem when performing a clean install on my Surface Pro 4. It appears to be a bug specific to v15063.

If you're experiencing similar issues with Offline Files and Sync Schedule, I recommend avoiding the Creator's Update or seeking alternative solutions for automating file syncing. Manual syncing still works fine, but it's inconvenient not being able to schedule automatic backups.
